The American Masters Exhibition and Sale returns to New York's legendary Salmagundi Club for the eighth time this fall.

Beginning in 2008, this invitational show has been a "not to be missed" art event in Greenwich Village.

Exhibition will open for viewing Wednesday, September 27 and will be available daily to the public through Friday, October 27, 2017. The Gala sales event will be held on Friday, October 13th. Tickets will go on sale September 15.

This year more than 50 artists will be participating in this fundraiser which benefits preservation and restoration of the Salmagundi's 1853 brownstone mansion.

Thursday, October 5; 6-9pm
Portrait Demo with AM Exhibiting Artist Mario Robinson

Regarded watercolor and oil painter Mario Robinson will paint a three-hour portrait demonstration from the life model in watercolor. At the conclusion, the demo will be available for purchase thorough auction. Proceeds to benefit the Salmagundi Club. Space is limited, come early to secure best seat.
Admission: $25, $20 for SCNY Members, $15 for students with ID

Quang Ho: Defining Quality in a Painting (Presentation)

Quang Ho — exhibiting artist in American Masters 2017 and co-curator — is a visionary painter and curator, and in this presentation he will discuss the concept of quality in a painting. How does one define quality? What are both the subjective and objective aspects of creating and curating artwork? There will be an open Q+A session with the artist at the end of the presentation.
Admission: $10 suggested donation (at door)

Collector + VIP Preview/Reception With Exhibiting Artists
Collectors and VIPs will receive an invitation to a special preview of American Masters and a meet-and-greet cocktail hour with several of the exhibiting artists. This reception is open to collectors, professional artists, SC club members and patrons, members of the press/art professionals, friends and family of exhibiting artists, and invited guests.

Thursday, October 12, 8pm
American Masters Artists' Dinner

This dinner in the club’s downstairs dining room following the reception is held in the exhibiting artists’ honor. Each exhibiting artist is invited with one guest.
Admission: Invitation only. (Free for exhibiting artists and one guest.)

Friday, October 13, 6-8pm (7:30pm: draw for art purchase)\
American Masters Gala & Sale

This premiere event of the exhibition — attended by several of the exhibiting artists,— is collectors’ first opportunity to purchase the artwork in American Masters 2017 through ballot-box draw. (Any remaining artwork will be available for purchase until the conclusion of the show on October 27.) This event is ticketed and only those present at the Gala & Sale can purchase the artwork. See Gala & Sale tab for full details and to purchase your ticket. (Space is limited.) Cocktail reception and music. Festive attire.

Sunday, October 15, 11am-3pm
American Masters Sunday Brunch
Exhibiting artists are invited for free with a guest to this Sunday brunch send-off on the last day of the American Masters weekend, held in the downstairs dining room of the Salmagundi Club. Brunch will be served buffet style, and you may come any time during the 11am-3pm window. SC members and the public are also invited to join, and tickets are $35 each. Note: Reservations are required for both exhibiting artists and the public. Please contact dining room manager Shumaila Jabbar to make your reservation:
Price: Free for exhibiting artists and one guest. $35 for members and the public.

Tuesday, October 17; 6:30-7:30pm
Fireside Art Chat With American Masters Founder/Curator Tim Newton
Join Tim Newton — founder/curator of American Masters and Chairman of the Board of the Salmagundi Club — in the main gallery as he discusses the artists and artwork featured in American Masters 2017, and also touches briefly on the history of the Salmagundi Club during its centennial celebration.
Admission: $10 suggested donation  (at door)

Tuesday, October 24; 6:30-8:30pm (demo); 8:30-9:30pm (presentation)
Demo & Presentation from AM Exhibiting Artist Max Ginsburg
Legendary New York City artist Max Ginsburg will paint a portrait demo from the life model starting at 6:30pm. Following the demonstration, he will give a presentation showing some of his paintings throughout his career, from 1956 to the present. He will also discuss his multi-figure painting procedures, his style of Social Realism and that of the Old Masters, and more.
Admission: $25, $20 for SCNY Members, $15 for students with ID
