Lower Gallery, April 04, 2016 - April 23, 2016

April 4 - April 23, 1-5pm Daily, Upper and Lower Galleries.

The American Watercolor Society is one of the oldest and most prestigious art societies in the world.  Their 149th Annual International Exhibition opens for viewing on Monday, April 4th and runs through April 23rd. Gallery hours are 1-5pm daily.

The opening reception will be held on Tuesday, April 5. 6-8pm.

The AWS Exhibition is one of the premiere watercolor events in the world.  More than 1,200 artists from throughout the United States and 23 foreign countries submitted their work to a panel of jurors chosen from Signature Members of the AWS.  Of these submissions, 147 paintings were selected for the exhibition.

A watercolor painting demonstration, “Watercolors that Sparkle,” will be given by renowned artist Judi Betts.  As she paints she will discuss the influence of color, how to invent a color cord, the use of abstract images, under-painting and how she uses variation and simplification. She’ll explain her concept of "magical shapes" as well as show new ways to see and capture mood and emotion. She will also discuss ways to develop an individual personal painting style. This special watercolor evening will be held April 13th from 6 to 8pm.  Admission is $10.

The painting pictured is the Gold Medal of Honor winner, “End of the Day,” by Susan Weintraub, AWS.
