Annual Library Dinner 2015
April 29, 2015

Wednesday, 6:00 PM.

This annual fundraising event features a talk and signing by
Maureen Gibbon. Author of the critically acclaimed Paris Red published in the U.S. by W.W. Norton.

Maureen Gibbon's Victorine is as bold and alluring as the one in Manet's paintings, but she also has a voice that is poetic, thoughtful and poignant. Paris Red is thrillingly imaginative but also ringing with authenticity—a book to savor. —Ross King, author of The Judgment of Paris.

In this wonderful novel chronicling the life of one of painter Edouard Manet’s primary models, Gibbon takes readers on a mesmerizing, erotic journey not only to another time and place but inside the mind of an artist…Using spare, evocative prose, Gibbon…offers an insightful and riveting account of how Manet and his muse feed off of each other’s passion to create something greater than either of them. —Publishers Weekly starred review.

Manet’s muse ponders color, power, sex and love in vibrant 1860s Paris...Fans of art history, Paris and contemporary Künstleroman like Girl With a Pearl Earring will enjoy the new perspective and the strong female voice. —Kirkus Reviews.

The evening begins at 6 PM with a cash bar and nibbles and the opportunity to view the Salmagundi Club’s 2015 Annual Members’ Exhibition and the Annual Sylvia Maria Glesmann Floral Exhibition. There will also be a special exhibition of works by Sylvia Maria Glesmann in the Patrons' Gallery.
