Salmagundi Art Club of New York

C.S. Lewis Institute Exhibition
Patrons' Gallery, September 03, 2015 - September 14, 2015

Commissioned for this prestigious and unique exhibition opportunity are 13 artists trained at Grand Central Atelier and working in New York City.  The group was given artistic freedom to depict any biblical narrative, or CS Lewis inspired picture that resonated with them on a personal or artistic level.  Each artist researched and wrestled with the immensely rich and vast opportunity offered by the commission.  Artist’s well-developed sketches were presented to the institute for approval and consent for a final work.  It is in honor of the artists, the Institute with the help of the Salmagundi Club, has graciously decided to unveil the works for the first time ever in the Artist’s native city, New York.

In Youngstown, Ohio a new branch of the CS Lewis Institute has recently opened bringing intellectual and creative discussion and mentorship from a Christian perspective to people from all disciplines.  The institute has an emphasis not only on cultivating the scholarly minds of its fellows, but in supporting the arts as an essential way to influence culture.

“Reason is the natural organ of truth; but imagination is the organ of meaning.” CS Lewis

With a brand new award winning architectural space for the Institute to thrive, paintings for the empty walls became an appropriate opportunity for patronage.  With the great goal to celebrate the fine arts and inspire the many fellows who take part in the Institute’s program, The CS Lewis Project was born.
