Carole Teller's Changing New York: A Close Up on the Photos and the Photographer
Upper Gallery, January 25, 2018
To make reservations, you must visit the GVSHP website.
Carole Teller is an artist and former art teacher who took photos of the Village in her spare time over the last half century. Carole donated a handful of the photos to GVSHP in 2016 on a whim, and they were awestruck.
The photos tell an incredible story of change, from the early 1960s through the early 1990s, with a keen eye for defining characters, places, and events in moments of transformation or disappearance.
When GVSHP added them to their Historic Image Archive (archive.gvshp.org) and shared them with the public, they became an instant worldwide sensation.
Were these foretelling images carefully chosen or happy accidents? What caught the photographer’s eye? And how were the subjects and locations of hundreds of these pictures identified, sometimes more than fifty years after they were taken?
Join us for a closer look at the Carole Teller’s collection and for an insightful conversation with Carole.
To celebrate, GVSHP will be uploading the full Carole Teller collection on their Historic Image Archive for the program!
Prints of the images will be available for sale, with proceeds benefitting GVSHP.
Event is free. Reservations required.
