Capturing a likeness in oil paint is one of the most challenging feats an artist can undertake, being able to do this in 6 hours is not only possible, but incredibly rewarding as well.
In this 3-day workshop, artists will paint a different portrait sketch in oil each day (new model each day). Working directly ( wet-in-wet ), the artist will utilize good drawing, and careful observation of form and values to complete a lifelike portrait.
Demonstrations by the instructor, and individual critiques will be offered each day. This workshop is co-taught. One instructor will paint for the first three hours, while the other instructor offers individual critiques, then the instructors will switch positions for the afternoon session, giving an opportunity for the participants to see both instructors at work, and receive instruction from both as well. Drawing only is also accepted in this workshop.
Another great benefit from this workshop will be having new models each of the three days, facilitating more concentrated learning.
Savannah Cuff, also an instructor at the prestigious Grand Central Atelier, won the $10,000 Grand Prize at Grand Central’s highly competitive Figure Drawing Contest in 2016.
