"Gardens, Cliffs and Canyons," Nature paintings by Gregory William Frux
Patrons' Gallery, June 02, 2019 - June 15, 2019
This exhibition of oil paintings and prints focuses on three areas that have been frequent subjects of Greg’s outdoor work.
First are the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, where the lily ponds and flowering trees have been an ongoing inspiration, especially in the late spring. The artist also teaches landscape drawing workshops at the Gardens each June.
Second are the famous rock formations, waterfalls and pools of the
Shawangunk cliffs, near New Paltz, New York. Frux has spent many weeks hiking, climbing and drawing in the Mohonk and Minnewaska Preserves.
His third subject for this show is the spectacular Red Rock Wilderness of Southern Utah. This country is mix of raw sandstone desert, towers-- walls and clefts punctuated by lush streams and stand of cottonwoods. The Utah paintings in this show are product of half a dozen visits and extensive onsite work.
