Over the years, the Salmagundi Club has been well-known for providing its artist members with important exhibition opportunities. The "Annual Exhibition" showcases its club members' finest works of art in all media - oil, watercolor, pastel, graphics, sculpture, photography and mixed media. Our illustrious membership includes both nationally-recognized award winners as well as emerging talent.
This year marks 100 years that our historic building has housed and inspired artists from all over the world. We invite the public to share in a plethora of activities that celebrate this centennial that begins with an Opening Gala on Friday, November3rd, at 6PM.

Juror of Awards: Jimmy Wright
A graduate of the Art Institute of Chicago (B.F.A. with Honors) and Southern Illinois University (M.F.A.), Jimmy Wright has been living and working in New York City since 1974. He has shown consistently nationally and internationally, and is represented by the galleries Corbett Vs. Dempsey, Chicago and DC Moore, New York. Wright is represented in the permanent collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Art Institute of Chicago; Hang MingShi Pastel Art Museum, Suzhou, P.R. China, and in public and private collections in the USA, Europe and Asia. Wright is president and chairman of the Board of Governors of the Pastel Society of America. He serves on the advisory board of the International Association of Pastel Societies and is on the editorial boards of The Pastel Journal and The Artist’s Magazine. Wright is an honorary president of the Beijing Pastel Research Association and a member of the honorary 1866 Founder’s Circle, School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
In 2017 he participated in the New York exhibitions Outside the Lines: Modernist Drawings, National Arts Club; Strange Flowers, Westbeth Gallery; and Love Among the Ruins, Howl Gallery; and in the Chicago exhibition Small Sculpture, Corbett vs Dempsey. His work will be included in upcoming exhibitions at the Chang Kai Shek Memorial Hall, Taipei, Taiwan and Art Basel, Miami. On November 2, Wright will conduct a public conversation about pastel with artist Irving Petlin at the National Arts Club. On November 16, John Corbett will interview him at the bookstore McNally Jackson.
In 2016 Wright’s work was concurrently on view in Olympia, organized by Karma NY, at Galerie Patrick Seguin, Paris and at Fierman Gallery, New York. In conjunction with the Fierman exhibition a limited edition publication of Wright’s 1974 drawings, featuring writing by Alissa Bennett and Alison Gingeras, was published with Heinzfeller Nileisist. In 2016 Corbett Vs. Dempsey and Direct Art Publishers published a full color hardcover monograph of the New York Underground drawings.
Wright has been a visiting artist at numerous institutions including Sara Lawrence College, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Pratt Institute, Skidmore College, American University, Ox-Bow School of Art, 92Y, Murray State University, Center for Book and Paper Arts at Columbia College, West Liberty State College.
