SCNY is proud to announce that A. Jon Prusmack is the 2016 Salmagundi Medal of Honor recipient, the highest honor that can be bestowed upon an artist by the 145 year old Club.
About A. Jon Prusmack:
Jon Prusmack graduated from NYU in 1966 with a degree in art and mathematics. He immediately pursued a career as a commercial artist/designer and illustrator. In 1968 he became a scholarship member of Salmagundi. A few years later he became an artist member. He is also an artist member of the Society of Illustrators. Jon has won many art awards at Salmagundi, the most recent being the 2015 Antonio Cirino Memorial Award as part of the Salmagundi Annual Members’ Exhibit.
Jon has been a serial entrepreneur, building businesses in the defense industry (DHS Technologies), sports (specifically rugby, United World Sports), and real estate (The Oasis Real Estate Group). He is developing a $175 million hotel, office, medical and retail complex in Huntsville, AL.
In 2012 Jon sold his defense business to a large private equity firm. Sales were in excess of $150 million annually. Jon also owns 22 patents on multiple products developed by him for the military. To complement building these businesses, Jon went back to school and earned a degree in engineering from NYU Polytechnic College as well as an MBA from Bernard Baruch Graduate School of Business.
“While I have not pursued art as a full time activity since 1997, I engage in it and the creative process as much as possible, in order to bring clarity and focus to my life. Sketching outdoors is a reality check.”
Jon is happily married to Patrice, who has been his partner and co-inventor in all their businesses.
