This 3-day painting workshop will emphasize the composition of the still life, and the observation of color, values, light, shadow, edges, brushstrokes, and paint quality. Beginning with a painted sketch of the still life set-up in monochromatic umber tones, the workshop will progress to applying color directly with the intent to “paint to finish”. The workshop will consist of demonstrations and personal attention tailored to each artist’s level. All levels of ability are welcome. The artists are to bring their favorite objects to paint.
The workshop will take place in the historic “Parlor” at the Salmagundi Club where the famous Emil Carlsen painting “Still Life with Copper Pan”, a jewel in the Club’s vast collection, is available for viewing and inspiration. Bring a copper pot to paint if so inspired, but any favorite subject matter is welcome.
About the Artist: After study at the Tyler School of Art in Rome, Italy, and graduating from Cornell University with a BFA degree, Buselli moved to New York and Studied at the Art Students League. She paints from a north light studio in an old brownstone built in 1890 which mirrors her love of turn-of-the-century traditional art practices, and painters such as Emil Carlsen and Henri Fantin LaTour, among others. Her careful observations of chiaroscuro, values, color, edges, and textures evoke a calm classical order and sense of timelessness in her work.
Her award winning paintings are “Finalists” in the Art Renewal Center’s recent 2018 and 2017 Salons and in the 2018 Portrait Society’s Member Competition Still Life Category. They have graced the covers and editorial pages of American Artist, Artist’s Magazine, and American Art Collector, and have won the FASO BoldBrush Award. A Signature Member of Oil Painters of America, Buselli’s paintings have been awarded “Best Still Life”, “Winsor & Newton Award of Excellence”, and the “Jack Richeson Silver Brush Award”, and have been accepted into numerous juried exhibitions.
