Richard Schmid & His Influence
June 6 - 13, 2009
Upper Gallery
Artist Reception: Sat, June 6, 6-8 pm
This exhibition features new Richard Schmid paintings as well as distinguished masterpieces from private collections. Also showcased are art works by twelve nationally recognized artists who Schmid has directly taught, mentored, and influenced. The theme of the installation is Childhood Innocence, which allows the artists to depict not only children, but also the toys, pets, and other possessions they cherish.

Schmid will give a presentation and lecture which chronicles the artist's exquisite paintings, with many examples revealing step-by-step sequences from start to finished work, followed by a question and answer period, and personalized book signing.

Annual Open Photography and Graphics Exhibition
June 15 - 26

Reception & Awards: Fri, June 26, 6-8 pm
This highly competitive juried, non-member exhibition includes works by photographers and graphics artists from all over the country. Photographs range from traditional still lives, portraits, scenic and industrial landscapes, classic New York City vignettes to the latest in digital imagery. In the graphics field there are drawings, pen and inks, etchings, wood- and linoleum-cuts.

Music by members of the USCG Academy Ensemble Band.
The Coast Guard Art Program 2009 Collection is comprised of thirty-four works by 19 artists. Twenty of these are the result of artist deployments to missions underrepresented in the collection. All these works are generously donated by COGAP members, most of whom are professional artists.

In/Sight = On/Site, Recent Paintings by Mary K. Connelly and Ella Yang

Closing Reception: Thursday, June 11, 6-8 pm
Hours: Wed - Sun, 1-6 pm; Thurs, 1-8 pm
This exhibition of small works brings together Connelly and Yang who share complementary perspectives in how they approach painting. Both Connelly's small-scale interiors and Yang's cityscapes and landscapes convey an intimate sense of Love of Place.

History Panorama at Fraunces Tavern Museum
One of the First Exhibits in NYC Celebrating the Founding of Manhattan by the Dutch.
Now through July 31
Don't miss this spectacular display of 25 panels painted by Salmagundians, each depicting a moment in NYC history since the Dutch discovery of Manhattan in 1609, before they travel to the Netherlands. History Panorama will be at the Fraunces Tavern Museum in the dramatic Flag Room, 54 Pearl Street, NYC, (212) 425-1778. Admission $10 for adults; $5 for Salmagundi Club members.

ARTISTS OF THE GREEN BAIZE, June 2, 6:30 pm: Help us to inaugurate billiards on the first Tuesday of each month. Everyone is invited; bring a friend. Those who want a lesson on how to play will be accommodated (by Mike Stap). Hang out, chat with friends new and old, and enjoy an adult beverage. Enjoy your second drink for 1/2 price.

June 4, 7:30 pm, "HS" with Meri Pakarinen (Free, donations accepted). "HS" is a one-woman theatrical performance about the Finnish painter Helene Schjerfbeck (1862-1946). The collage like performance delves into Helene's inner-life in thirteen scenes. A lonely cello music reflects Helene's feelings about love, pain, her disappointments and happiness. June 9 & 10, 7:30 pm, Creating & Marketing Fine Art "Gicl�e" Prints" & Marketing Your Art Consistently (Free, 2-Night Event). Susan Fader of Ditto Editions will discuss the mysteries surrounding the digital reproduction format called "Gicl�e" on the 9th, and on the 10th she will discuss how to build your comfort level, how to promote yourself and sell your work in the 21st Century. June 16, 7:30 pm, An Evening of Song, by William Minifie (Free, donations accepted). An encore performance by Minifie who packed the house last November. From Grace Church boy chorister to singing Henry VII in London's West End, from Mozart and Wagner to Kern and Berlin, Minifie's repertoire is as versatile as is his tonal palette.

June 19, 6:00-8:00 pm, Tango Instruction (Free). Back by popular demand, Karina Romero will bring her renowned teaching talent and creative energy to Salmagundi for an evening of free Argentine Tango lessons-No Partner Necessary!

June 21, 1:00 pm, "Constructing a Portrait" by William Seccombe (Free), & Sunday Brunch 11:00- 2:30pm ($20 + tax). Last Brunch of the Year! Seccombe will be giving a free painting demonstration on the basic techniques of constructing a portrait and working with a color palette. Event Rental: The Club is an ideal venue for your next event, party or meeting. Nearly all of the public galleries and rooms are available for rental with the option of on-site catering.

Gallery Rental: Weekly rentals for art exhibitions are available for the Main Gallery, Billiard Room (aka Lower Gallery), the Library, and the "Patron's Gallery," a lovely, newly renovated space on the second floor.
