103rd Annual Thumb-Box Exhibition and Holiday Sale:
America’s Oldest Miniatures Exhibit
Upper Gallery, Monday December 5, 2011 through Sunday, January 1, 2012
Viewing Hours: 1-6pm Mon.-Fri., 1-5pm Sat. & Sun.

The Salmagundi Club, located at 47 Fifth Avenue in New York City’s Greenwich Village, will host its 103rd Annual Thumb-Box Exhibition of original small works by artist members in all media including oil painting, sculpture and photography.

This juried exhibition has a unique pedigree: the first "Oil Thumb Box Exhibitions" were held by the Salmagundi Club in 1908 and considered by many art historians to be the longest running continuous exhibition of en plein air works in the United States. Today the exhibition includes works in all media.

All artwork is for sale. Cash prizes ranging between $50 and $400 will be awarded by a distinguished jury of artists led by Robert Pillsbury.

Previous Salmagundi Purchase Prize winners from this event include Robert Mueller in 2008 for his landscape oil painting "Passing Shower-Cutchogue" and Michael Budden in 2007 for his work entitled "Flatiron". The Club owns, as a part of its Permanent Collection, a large number of Vezin Prize winners from these early shows.
