Mary Jean Crenshaw Weaver, "Mojo"

As a child, I was inspired by family artists and had a passion for drawing animals. I studied art history and took studio art classes while obtaining a masters degree in finance at the University of Alabama. The following decades of devotion to family did manage to include yearly trips to the workshops of countless modern masters. In the past few years I have begun to truly immerse myself in that instruction with a passion. I paint all subjects, especially animals, often fueled by the struggle, the problem-solving and the varying play of light that each subject provides. I have been grateful for recent awards and opportunities and was especially delighted to become an artist member of Salmagundi Club this year. I also enjoy membership in Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club, Oil Painters of America and the American Impressionist Society.
