Salvatore Scrivo Salvatore Scrivo

I was an art teacher for 33 years in an urban school district, and did illustration work on the side.

The theme of my paintings mostly has to do with basic human needs and desires, and how they affect the human experience.

Strongly influenced artistically by Pop Art, Surrealism, and Illustration, I invite the viewer to enter an emotionally involved world as both the voyeur and participant. While addressing the roles of Kitsch and Nostalgia in our current culture, I have amplified the colors and used dimensional cut out elements. In our contemporary art scene, where sentimentality and beauty have been devalued, I love to explore the lines between sweet and fearful tensions: film noire versus romance magazine stories.
