Ernesto Cardinale
Ernesto Cardinale, born and raised in Philadelphia, attended the Philadelphia College of Art before starting a career as a photo engraver and lithographer for several large commercial printers. His photo engraving and color separation skills brought him to Conde Nast where Ernesto worked on Vocue, Glamour, House & Garden and Vanity Fair magazines. While consulting globally with international clients, Ernesto also reproduced fine art works for the Smithsonian and the National Gallery.
In between consulting in the printing industry, Ernesto painted many murals and other commissioned works around Delaware and Pennsylvania. His main focus was oil painting and then watercolors by the 1970s when he moved to New York City where he currently resides.
Over the last decade, in between doing printing and engraving work for Martha Stewart and other prestigious NYC clients, Ernesto has exhibited his jazz portraits at WBGO and continued to do commissions.
A few years ago, Ernesto opened his own studio on the Upper East Side where he picked back up the oil paining and started his 'retirement' as a full-time painter. Ernesto is a member of the acclaimed Salmagundi Art Club and is a patron of the Lincoln Jazz Center Society.
