May Rolstad Trien

May Rolstad Trien grew up in Norway where she started her art education. She later attended the University of Madrid, Spain, and Bath Academy of Art, England. After settling in New York City, she studied at the New School and the Art Students League where her most influential teacher was Harvey Dinnerstein.

May mostly focuses on drawing and painting in a highly realistic style. Her oil paintings and graphite drawings show her close observation and attention to detail. In her choice of subjects, May is often inspired by memories from Norway and her family.

May has exhibited widely and has won many awards in national juried art exhibitions, including: Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club: Medal of Honor; Anna Hyatt Huntington Bronze Medal. American Artists Professional League: Medal of Honor. National Academy of Design: The Lenard Kester Award. Art Students League Members Juried Exhibition: Best in Show for Works on Paper.
