Membership
in Salmagundi Club opens the door to an exhilarating world
of art: colorful gallery exhibitions; painting demonstrations by nationally recognized
artists; classes in drawing and painting; and a host of social activities.
As
an artist-member you have the opportunity to exhibit your work in four to six
exhibitions a year, including the Spring and Fall Auction Exhibitions in which
members' paintings are auctioned off for the mutual benefit of the artist and
the Club. It also brings you in touch with other artist-members with similar interests
and provides you with access to the Club's extensive art library. Member dues
are often paid for by procedes earned from sales of artwork. Lay
members to patron members with an interest in the world of art are welcomed and
find the friendly atmosphere conductive to learning about art, including taking
classes in drawing and painting, or just enjoying the relaxing and convivial Club
House, home for numerous fun-filled social activities.
The
landmark brownstone headquarters at 47 Fifth Avenue in Greenwhich Village - historic
spawning ground for so many great American artists - is a gracious center which
provides the comfort of a contemporary club in surroundings of elegant and aesthetic
appeal. The Dining Room and the relaxing Grill Room are available for members
and their guests. The extraordinary Victorian Parlor is also open for special
occasions. As
the Club is a tax-exempt charitable organization serving the public with free
art programs, contributions in support of Salmagundi Club are tax deductible
according to law. Sponsorship
may be arranged for new applicants for membership. All applications are submitted
to the Admissions Committe for consideration, and the work of candidates for artist
membership is also reviewed by the Art Committee. Application
forms are available by writing or calling the office secretary at (212) 255-7740. |
